In 1898, A F Wicksteeds formed a quantity surveying practice, which operated from an office at 8 Old Jewry in the City of London.
The past 100+ years have of course seen many changes. Mr Wicksteed’s son, Jack, joined the Practice during the inter-war years, and the name was changed to Wicksteed and Son.
The office moved from Old Jewry to Australia House, perhaps to house and expanding workforce. One of the senior assistants at the time, Harry Few, was eventually taken into the Partnership, and the title changed again to Wicksteed, Son & Few. In 1986 the name was shortened to Wicksteeds.
In 1936 “Gerry” Gerrard joined the Practice, and following Harry Few’s death “Gerry” purchased the Practice from his widow, and continued its development.

The continued growth of the Practice resulted in the setting up of a second office in Wimbledon in 1969 and then a relocation to Sutton in 1970. Brian Wright managed the “out of town” locations, whilst Gerry and Ray Huckstep continued “in town”.
The London office was closed in 1978 and consolidated in premises at Salatin House, Cedar Road, Sutton.
The most recent, significant development in Wicksteeds’ history was the decision taken mid 2001 to change status from a partnership to a limited company. Thus Wicksteeds Consultants Limited was set up, and commenced trading in November 2001.

In 2004 the decision was taken to leave Salatin House and relocate to more modern offices in Orion House, but still located at 19 Cedar Road in Sutton.
The move has been a great success and we are all comfortable with our new working environment.

Looking to the future
There is no doubt that the technological advances to today’s high-tech age will continue, and it seems inevitable that Clients will demand an increasingly sophisticated service, Wicksteeds is well placed to respond to technological developments.
The traditional values we have brought to our commissions for over 100 years will continue. Thus, professionalism, honesty and competence, always allied to a bit of fun and enjoyment, will continue to be our bywords, and it is hoped there will be a chronicler in the year 2098, charting the second centenary of Wicksteeds.
